Plot

Ben (De Niro), 65 plus dapper ex corporate joins an exponentially expanding start-up, started and run by Jules( Hathaway), a young hard working ambitious woman who is burning both ends to balance her expanding business and personal life as a wife and mother. When he is teamed up as her Intern , it’s the onset of many positive changes in her life.

Analysis

Nancy Meyers creates two protagonists that are relatable, admirable , adorable and to the core.

A young woman achiever fighting it out, giving her best, facing dilemmas and emotional upheavals, trying to balance her professional and personal life.

A disciplined, experienced, composed, intelligent ,congenial, loyal, old man turning out as an invaluable asset to all those around him making him so adorable. His soothing, calming and dependable presence almost makes you feel as if you want to have him around.

Actors like Anne Hathaway and Robert De Niro playing the two is like a cherry on top. Robert De Niro is awesomely superb .

The concept of old school thought of chivalry, groomed hair, crisp collared shirts, business suits set against and making a mark in T shirt donning, ruffled haired, texting/ mailing hip hop gen-next was hilarious and relatable at the same time.

I don’t know if it’s only me but I find similarities in The Intern and Devil Wears Prada – Hard working admirable woman boss; misfit intern winning over eventually with their merit ,admirable and inspirational qualities in both, slick pace and never a dull moment. Except that this one is higher on the emotional quotient.

Besides offering top notch performances, this film is an exhilarating watch that turns up its overwhelming quotient towards the end and turns out a complete entertainer with chuckles and tears et all.
