Is a beautiful film with two interwoven stories, of love that exists in two entirely different eras!

The film starts on a light note in the present era with a story of a couple who are childhood sweethearts and about to get married, one of whom is a thoroughly confused individual. The big fat Punjabi wedding setup and the peg-sheg loving families ,together with a lot of humour in dialogues makes a great start and gives many a laughter moments.

The other love story of the bygone era is in complete contrast and tugs emotionally. The earthy tones of the frames, the old world charm, the poetry, the melodies are in complete sync with each other to create that feeling of love and longing, the claustrophobic feel of the societal pressures of those times.

The story and screenplay have been written very well by Anvita Dutt. The direction by Anshai Lal is very good . It’s his directorial debut after assisting in films like Chak De and Pyar ke Side Effects.

The music is by Shashwat Sachdev and seemed good. Sahibaan was an exceptionally good song. The movie has its own pace and few scenes including the climax could have been edited tighter.

Performance wise, Anushka and Diljit seem beautiful as Roop and Shashi. Diljit Dosanjh makes his character so innocent and loveable just as in Udta Punjab. Anushka plays a very subdued and quite character unlike her usual feisty bubbly self, which was a welcome change.

The two newcomers Suraj Sharma and Mehreen Pirzada look very sweet, funny and loveable. I think they played well .

The beauty of the film lies in the fact that weaving the two contrasting stories has been done seamlessly and the romantics would realise that the writer is trying to convey a message through the contrast. She wants us to feel the pain and longing of an unfulfilled love in a difficult and turbulent era as against the vain confusions and dilemmas of today’s generation who perhaps take many things for granted including love.

I found the new age story entertaining and the old world story very romantic and emotional.

Overall the movie is very different and worth a watch.
