Well… How you find Dilwale is entirely how you want to look at it!
Keeping in mind Rohit Shetty’s past record of Bol Bachchan and Chennai Express etc, I had my expectations firmly in place.
I opted for it purely as a brainless masala entertainer with some good cast and good music and looks.
And that’s what it turned out to be.
But yes… there’s a lot that it’s not.
It was a predictable story but could have been much better had it been for some good screenplay and script which was practically missing. After all they had the best possible lead and side cast.
And it’s definitely lengthier than what we could withstand.
The first 10-15 min are almost like a shock. Artificial overtly colourful sets, characters with silly perfection and love, sweetness and dialogues .
But then… things get better and we get used to things .
Performance wise Shah Rukh is just as his usual self. Kajol doesn’t seem to have the usual Kajol spark except in few scenes. The younger two are just average. Sanjay Mishra in his comic role is the only one worth mentioning. Rest of the good side casts are all wasted.
In the looks department, Shah Rukh and Kajol have beaten even Varun and Kriti. They both look extremely fit and good looking (this appreciation does not include the prosthetic looks and fair skin)
Except for Sanjay Mishra and to some extent Johnny Lever, there’s nothing much to expect in the humour department.
Cinematography and locations could have looked good had it not been for the unnecessary bright colours used everywhere.
Music wise, two songs are very good… rest average.
Rohit Shetty’s USP… his high adrenaline fight scenes were definitely missed… except for a glimpse here and there. And those car stunts do not impress anymore.
So if your idea of time pass can include few good songs, some good locations, good looking cast, some slapstick humour, some stunts and … Shah Rukh…you can opt for this one!
