Very rarely would you find a suspense thriller maintaining such interest, excitement and suspense right until its second sequel over a span of nine years. What’s more, the film justifies the story instead of just riding on the popularity. The writers have taken pains to pick up the previous threads and maintain continuity.

I went to watch the film with strongly tethered expectations but was pleasantly surprised by this thoroughly satisfying conclusion ( though I have this tiny doubt that they might get tempted to extend this further )

Vijay Salgaonkar’s life has moved forward. He is a rich film producer. His kids have grown up. What remains constant is his foresightedness and his ability to outsmart the police. At the receiving end this time, besides the grieving parents Meera and Mahesh and seething Gaitonde, is the new crime branch SP Tomar ( Jaideep Ahlawat)

You are bound to remain thoroughly invested in the upheaval in Salgaonkar family’s life . The twists and turns will give you plenty of guess work and keep you busy. I confess that I felt no tension this time purely because I had total faith in Vijay’s scheming mind and his capabilities.

Ajay Devgn maintains the brooding intensity with even fewer dialogues than the previous instalments.I think he must be pretty happy considering his offscreen image as the man of few words and expressions. The writers have given his share to Jaideep Ahlawat who gets pro max dialoguebaazi and footage.

What is impressive is the way the writers have woven the chakravyuh which apparently Vijay Salgaonkar is an expert at. What’s interesting is that as audience, we tried to guess Vijay’s modus operandi under the impression that we were privy to how his brain functions. But I can happily confess that they checkmated not only the rivals but at times ,us too. It feels good to make wrong guesses sometimes.

The film fares well. The pace , the suspense, the continuity, everything falls in place. They did go overboard in a certain scene that seemed stretched and out of place. And I feel Jaideep Ahlawat’s capability as an actor did not need the over-the top-dialogues and style. That man can leave a mark irrespective of the length of role. And here, he had the lion’s share anyways.

Over all, it is an entertaining film that needs to be lauded for being a good third instalment. Definitely worth a watch. After all, the 2 Oct and Pav Bhaji story deserves a conclusion!
