Sharma Jee ki Beti Review: Heartwarming film, Heartfelt Story and Delightful Performances

Sharma Ji ki Beti (2024/ Comedy Drama/ Prime Video)

Writer / Director – Tahira Kashyap Khurana

Cast – Divya Dutta, Sakshi Tanwar, Sharib Hashmi, Saiyyami Kher, Vanshika Taparia, Arista Mehta, Praveen Dabas, Ravjeet Singh

Sharma ji ki Beti is a heartwarming film about a bunch of women trying to find foothold and seeking happiness.

What makes it a delightful watch is the humour infused storytelling that doesn’t let it get too heavy at any point of time.

A working mother is trying to balance her career, personal aspirations, household responsibilities and motherhood.

A homemaker is desperately seeking interactions and social life.

A young sportswoman is at loggerheads with herself about her aspirations coming in the way of her relationship.

Two young teenagers are trying to come to terms with their bodies, self esteem and sexuality.

A dedicated and supporting husband.

A disconnected and philandering husband.

A so called perfect boyfriend who can’t see the woman beneath his girlfriend.

In this well written and well made film, the characters make an immediate connect with you. You might be chuckling at their antics but you can feel their dilemmas and struggles. At times, you would find yourself wanting to assure them, guide them or just hug them.

The terrific cast breathes life into the characters.

Let me begin with Divya Dutta who is absolutely fabulous. She shines. She tugs at your heart ,welling up a plethora of emotions in you.

Sakshi Tanwar as the uptight mother and teacher is as real as her difficult relationship with her daughter.

Vanshika Taparia and Arista Mehta are the highlight of the film as the young teenagers. The girls are terrific I tell you.

Saiyyami Kher , the hardcore sports enthusiast she is in real life, looks very comfortable in her character.

Sharib Hashmi is the supporting husband, understanding partner and doting family man. There’s something natural and real the way he plays these “gem gentleman” kind of characters.

Parvin Dabas and Ravjeet Singh make their presence felt.

Tahira Kashyap delivers a heartfelt gem with her maiden attempt. The screenplay, the cast, performances, the story, and the humour hits the right spot.

To me the film is all bout finding yourself and the message about acceptance, understanding and love is well delivered.

Do watch this light hearted and well intended film.
