Laapataa Ladies (Satire / 2024/ Cinema Release)

Director – Kiran Rao

Cast – Nitanshi Goel, Sparsh Srivastav,  Pratibha Ranta  , Ravi Kishan, Chhaya Kadam, Geeta Aggarwal

When we have Aamir khan and Kiran Rao at the helm, one is bound to expect originality and quality .

But this film delivers so much more than that.

Wrapped up as a light entertainer, adorned with innocent characters and heartwarming performances, tickling you funny bones all the while, it delivers a bundle of messages that strike you hard. I would call that cinema at its best.

Cannot be telling you about the plot more than the trailers have done.

In a story that is based in rural India in 2001, two veiled brides get interchanged. While one is totally lost, the other ones seems to be trying to find her way out. And that leads to a lot of confusion, intrigue, a pinch of mystery, a lot of hilarity, some hard hitting reality, and heart-warming messages.

Watch this at the earliest, to find whether they find their way back or way out.

Besides having their heart in the right place, the entire team needs to lauded for their contribution.

The writers deserve accolades for this earthy story, with funny situations and humour soaked in colloquia dialogues. The casting is fantastic and so are the performances. It was good to see Sparsh after Jamtara and he is superb . Pratibha  stands out too. Nitanshi looks super cute. Chhaya Kadam is great as always. Ravi Kishan steals your heart.

Kiran Rao’s  fine direction and vision brings everything together and I am thankful to her to bring such a beautiful film. While Dhobi Ghat was a good film, but it was meant more for critical acclaim than entertainment. With Laapataa Ladies, Kiran Rao is bound to achieve both.

It ’s never loud, it never aims to emotionally exploit, it never seems to try too hard, And yet it hits the right note .

It keeps you amused all the while, with plenty of chuckles and some laugh aloud moments. The heart warming climax leaves you moist eyed and happy, for the characters as well as yourself for having watched something really good.
