Is the story of a lively, vivacious woman with indomitable spirit.
Kangana plays an NRI Gujju girl settled in US who whose life takes a turn for the worse after a stint at a Vegas’ casino.
The film definitely owes all to Kangana because she’s the only one who keeps it going. As a 30 year old divorcee who has a not so smooth relationship with her parents and as a woman who wants to live life at her own terms, she just plays it beautifully and so naturally that she wows you.
In the first half, as Praful Patel, her effervescence is infectious, and her sorted attitude admirable. When things start going wrong , her unbeatable spirit remind you of the resilience of real Kangana. The character seems to be very well etched out. No doubt our real life firebrand could play it with so much conviction.
But then towards the second half, the story just keeps meandering. Honestly speaking, I felt that the plot was too thin.
The script and screenplay is by Apoorva Asrani and as credits claimed , additional story and dialogues by Kangana herself.
I don’t know how much of the credit to be given to Hansal Mehta who has tried to break away from his league of dark and grim films. He wanted to make a bright and happy film and he actually did. It’s just that apart from the film having these two aspects, and besides having Kangana of course, there wasn’t much to offer.
The never say die spirit of our protagonist ensured a happy ending in spite of all the ups and downs she faced but those ups and downs were not without glitches and things seemed more comic and unreal often .
The only thing real and what makes the film watchable is the Queen of course. Every nuance of her character and each of her expressions are a pleasure to watch.
The only other actor worth mentioning is Sohum Shah as her suitor. His natural looks & performance made him as real and relatable as charming.
Overall, the film can be a good and light one time watch. For the Kangana fans , it’s a virtual treat.
Watch it for the fiercely independent and maverick Praful and watch it for Kangana ,well almost the same in spirit.
Score 7 on 10 ( 6 for the movie and 1 for Kangana )
