Stree2 Review : Sharp Satire, More comedy ,Less horror ,Good Entertainment

Stree2 ( Horror Comedy/ 2024/ Cinema Release)

Director – Amar Kaushik

Writer – Niren Bhatt

Cast- Rajkumar Rao, Pankaj Tripathi, Aparshakti Khurana, Abhishek Banerjee, Shraddha Kapoor

One of the most successful horror comedy of recent times, Stree’s climax had us desperately waiting for the sequel to close the loop on the teaser left in the last scene.

Stree2 has left the box offices ringing, industry rejoicing (considering the recent string of cinematic debacles ) and the audience thronging to cinemas.

If you are a Stree fan and yet to watch the sequel, it’s important to level out your expectations.

Stree 2 picks up where it left and joins the dots from “Stree”s story to “Sarkata” ’s story whose terror now besieges Chanderi after “Stree” was made to depart by our Vicky, the heartthrob tailor of the cute little small town.

What’s worse is that the tables have turned against the women this time. Girls are going missing.

When the situation escalates and reverses the happy matriarchal setup of the town, Vicky( Rajkumar Rao) has to take up cudgels again, aided by Rudra Bhaiyya ( Pankaj Tripathi) and silly cute friends Jana (Abhishek Banerjee) and Bittu( Aparshakti).

The sequel successfully takes forward the legacy , is engaging and entertaining. It also tells you the back story of Vicky’s mysterious love interest, the alleged “chaudail” as touted by Jana and Bittu.

But if you compare with Stree, the sequel  lags behind.

Personally speaking, the horror parts were pretty flat except for a few jump scares. There was a certain intrigue factor that added to the tinge of fear last time. Still remember the slight fear when Stree crept up behind Jana in that deserted street.

As far as the other component , comedy , is concerned, the dialogues and top notch performances by the cast hold fort.

The dialogues are pretty funny and the superb deliveries make them hilarious.

Rajkumar Rao is in top form as usual. Abhishek Banerjee is great as always. Pankaj Tripathi adds value with his characteristic touch. Shradhha is good with her sober and serious presence.

This sequel uses many tongue-in-cheek references, meaningful metaphors and sharp satire, that adds value to the script. There are also a couple of guest appearances that are fun and links to what’s more to come.

Like the earlier film , this film also carries forward the message against misogyny and patriarchy with its sharp satire.

Over all the film is a good entertainer. You could give it a go if you are a fan of this genre.

Pls Note- Do not leave the cinema as soon the story ends. There’s a pretty long and interesting portion that gives you many teasers of the oncoming sequels of the horror comedy multiverse created by Maddock.
