Khel Khel Mein ( Comedy/2024/Cinema Release)
Director- Mudassar Aziz
Cast – Akshay Kumar , Vaani Kapoor, Taapsee Pannu, Ammy Virk, Aditya Seal, Pragya Jaiswal, Fardeen Khan
The trailer promised a good one and my instincts said that this theme and the potential humour around it , especially given the cast , couldn’t fail.
And I was right . In fact the film turned out to be an absolutely delightful watch, much more than I expected.
When a group of friends including 3 couples sits down for a “dare to bare” kind of game around their phones , its a high octane roller coaster ride which jolts them .
Except that it’s a fun ride for us , seeking guilty pleasure in their discomfort, discretions ,emotional outbursts, closet secrets and hilarious exchanges.
Of course there’s emotional quotient too but the gravity of the situations has been blended well with light humour, such that it strikes a chord and yet doesn’t let it get too heavy.
The two elements that worked amazingly together are the dialogues and the performances by the cast.
Akshay Kumar is in his element and at his comic best after ages. As the suave and naughty cosmetologist, he is the highlight of the film and leaves you in peals of laughter with his nuanced expressions and priceless reactions.
Ammy Virk and Taapsee Pannu are the next two who take up cudgels to tickle our funny bones with their innocent expressions and exchanges.
Vaani Kapoor, Pragya Jaiswal, Aditya Seal and Fardin Khan deliver well and together the entire cast has you in a tight grip for the entire duration.
The climax does deliver an emotional message without getting too “ sermon” -y .
The music numbers are peppy and melodious as per where they fit in .
Overall , the film was a total paisa vasool with peals of laughter and chuckles through out. Give it a go .
To give you a scale of comparison, I thoroughly enjoyed Stree2 but to be honest, I laughed so much more in this one.
